About Michiko

Comprehensively trained through Balanced Body Education.

After fracturing the socket portion of my hip joint in 2005 I tried Mat Pilates. I needed a non-impact form of exercise to gain strength and get back on my feet. The stress-relieving benefits kept me coming back.

I enjoy teaching my students about their bodies through movement experiences and I’m passionate about helping people feel better in their bodies to tackle their everyday lives.

I like a collaborative approach to training and encourage feedback on what my students feel is working best in their bodies.

My Pilates journey part 1 as a student

My hip injury led me to Mat Pilates in a gym setting. Pilates became so important to me I’d run out of my stressful job to make class because my worries just melted away and ended my day wonderfully.

I moved to San Diego and started Reformer Pilates in a little studio in La Jolla. I tried out private classes and did duets with my bestie who now owns her own Pilates studio. I then transitioned to group Reformer classes, attending at least twice a week. I had so much fun with the other people who’d go and I’d always leave feeling better.

I loved my Pilates classes and continued into my first pregnancy, all the way up to the month I delivered. Postpartum, I kept going to Pilates and felt good.

Pregnancy #2 we moved to Texas, closer to my family. Once we arrived and settled in I of course missed my Pilates. 6 months pregnant I did not feel comfortable going into a new studio. With my limited time and my boy so little still, I decided I wanted my own Reformer!

My Pilates journey part 2 training to become an instructor

Back in San Diego, my best friend became a Pilates Instructor for that same little studio in La Jolla. It got me thinking about becoming an instructor myself! A flexible schedule for when my children go to school sounded great.

I researched different training programs and found the nationally recognized Balanced Body Education Program within close proximity to my home. I own a Balanced Body Reformer and I wanted to have reputable training that I could take anywhere if I decided to move again. The flexibility that they allow students to go at their own pace helped me as a mom of two under two at that time!

I gained so much both physically and mentally from my teacher training even though I’d practiced Pilates as a student for 11 years prior.

Attending the mind-blowing first module for Mat Pilates made me realize I had no idea of all the intricacies and small nuances of Pilates!

I went on to complete all the Balanced Body training for Reformer, Cadillac, and Barrels. I had a new start learning Pilates, this time from a different perspective and with way more attention to detail.

Hopefully, the level of knowledge and quality of the training I received will help make a difference for my clients now and in the future. I’m constantly on a mission to learn more so I’m able to filter that information down to my clients.

I currently teach in-person private & semi-private Pilates sessions out of my home Pilates studio in Cedar Park, TX.
